Right out of college, I taught English as a Second Language in the coastal town of Manta, Ecuador. My roommate was an eccentric Ecuadorian artist who enjoyed imparting advice to my young twenty-something self. Some was useful, most, like recommending that I play paddle ball daily to get in excellent physical shape, was not.
In the useful category, was her bizarre advice to drink hot tea on hot days to cool off. The sensibility of such advice (or one’s desire to follow it) can be argued ad nauseam, but the fact remains that you do feel cooler once you stop drinking a hot beverage on a very hot day. Imagine that!
I’m sharing this, because on this very, very cold day I’m posting a recipe that contains ice cream. I’m not sure why you would want to eat ice cream on such a freezing day, but according to the logic of the advice I received a long time ago, once you do eat it you should start feeling a bit warmer. Happy cooking.
